| The new HaloCharts Score (HCS) system! | After many many emails about boosting and other related complaints, I decided to completely redo the way HaloCharts ranks players. I spent the day working it out and I feel very good about the new scoring system. The new HCS is a more defined skill-based set of rules that is more accurate at rating who the best players are in Halo 3. Here are some details about the changes and what has been fixed:
So what's different now?
First, HCS is now based COMPLETELY on Ranked Games. So boost in social all you want and it won't matter a bit. EXP doesn't matter now either. So go get that Grade 4 now in Grifball, but don't expect your HCS to go up.
Second, the so-called "Supporter Advantage" is now gone. Before, after you became a supporter you probably noticed your rank go up quite a bit. This was because the system was gathering all of your games and giving you a bonus for headshots in those games. In the beginning, everybody had their games loaded, but after it became supporters only the advantage came into play. Thankfully that is no longer the case so everyone, supporter or not, will now get ranked fairly.
So how do you increase your HCS?
Play ranked games and play them well. A lot of different aspects of your ranked games come into factoring your HCS. The details of HCS won't be posted anywhere, but just remember: PLAY RANKED GAMES

- I added the award for medals today. Its not on the award page yet though.
- The K/D ratio awards have been tweaked to be easier to get. The bronze one is 1.0, silver 1.5, gold 2.0, gold star 2.5.
- There have been some major changes to the way HCS is computed. I'll give more detail soon.

- There's a new Game Finder by Date chart for Supporters. You can use this to pick a date that you played on and see all of your games and some stats about them. Also, there is a link to the bungie.net page for each game. Thanks to skwiddly for the idea!
- There's a little arrow link on the last post info for topics in group forums now. It will take you to the last post in the topic.
- The forums have the much needed new post indicators now. Its amazing how important something like that is in a forum system.

- The Salutes Award has been taken down. I did this because salutes have started to get out of hand since the induction of the awards. Lots of forum posts and messages asking for salutes drove me to remove the award. It might show back up again someday, but I'm not sure.
- There is a new medal for Assists now.

- I think I finally got all of the leaderboards working correctly with the new "per game" view. Give them a try and let me know if you still find problems.
- Also, I think I fixed the chat problem related to usernames having spaces in them. So if your username has a space in it, try the chat room and see if it appears correctly.
- HaloCharts was down for a couple hours last night while I did some OS updates. I'm still working on some speed enhancements also.
- The Salutes award is now on the awards page.
- Post counts and Supporter stars now show up in group forums and the main forum.
- You can now preview posts before you make them in the forums.

- There's a new award for Salutes now. Its not on the awards page yet, but will be soon.
- Added a link to Halo-Central.com, a nice up & coming Halo 3 fan site. Check it out if you have a few minutes.
- I added a pretty cool feature to most of the leaderboards. You can now switch them to a "per game" view to see who is getting the most per game on each leaderboard. Very good info here. Let me know if you see any bugs or problems with the new leaderboard mode.
UPDATE: Most, if not all of the medals per game leaderboards are incorrect. I'll get this fixed ASAP. I believe the weapon ones are ok though. Thanks to K1ngSnowman for letting me know.

| Site Update: July 11, 2008 |
- The phpBB based forum for HaloCharts is no more. It has been replaced with a group forum for the site. I think this will help motivate me to keep working on the group forums so that they can be as functional as they need to be. This also means you no longer have to have 2 accounts here. You can register once and be able to access both the site and the forum.

I made some changes to the Group Forums.
- You can now edit your own posts
- Group owners can "Stick" topics in their forums
- Group owners can edit & delete individual posts
- Group owners can set it so that anyone (logged in) can post in the forum for the group.
- Added a little more color to the layout
- On the Message System, when you reply to messages it will now show Replied as the status. Also your Sent Messages are collapsed by default to make the page not so long.
- You can now fill in a Player Bio if you have a registered account. Just look under My Account and anything you put in will appear on your player page when a player clicks the player bio button.
- You can now sort any of the columns on the Group Members list on Group pages. Handy if you don't want to have to go look at the Group Leaderboards.
- There's a Recent Forum Posts box on the front page now right before the Picture of the Hour.

| Site Update: July 10, 2008 & some other news |
- I finally got the supporter status star added to EVERY leaderboard. Yep, it took me a while, but it looks pretty nice now.
- Team Departing Sin's Montage is up at Halo3Montage. HAZMATV2 did an excellent job on it. Flatline JP, ranked in the Top 10 here at HaloCharts, is part of Team Departing Sin. Be sure to rate and comment on it.
- The Gamers Garage & Gaming 4 Others have setup a Halo 3 Breast Cancer Charity Tournament to raise money for breast cancer research. More information on this tournament can be found here.
- I've gotten about 25 completed surveys so far. Some very good comments coming along with some great ideas for the site. If you haven't completed the survey, please take a minute to do so. Thanks!
- On all Goals that are in progress I added a "Days in Progress" stat that is similar to the "Days to Complete" stat on Completed Goals.

- Added Steaktaculars & Linktaculars to the Medal Chest data on all player pages.
- Added Leaderboards for Steaktaculars & Linktaculars. Like all new leaderboards, it will take a day or two for them to fully populate.
- Added an option to show or hide your online status. Its on the 'My Account' page.
- Added an award for the Wheelman medal. I felt like players that focused on getting that medal lost out on a lot of other things, so they deserve some recognition. The Awards page has been updated with this one now as well.
- The Random Player Pic box on the front page is now the Picture of the Hour. I had to change it because it was showing up broken a lot and it was pretty slow the way I was doing it.
- I have added a Survey page to the site. I love getting feedback on the things here, so if you have a few minutes, please take the survey so that I can know what you think. Thanks!

Also, Hawty McBloggy put up an awesome tribute to Bungie and the community. Its worth checking out all of the submissions (including the wallpaper I posted above).
Also, you can now filter out any of the Leaderboards by Rank. So if you're interested in which Captain Grade 3 has the most Plasma Grenade kills, you can now check. Pretty interesting stuff.

| Site Update: July 6, 2008 |
- There are now two leaderboards for Campaign stats: Enemies KIA & Friendlies Lost. They will take a day or two before they are fully populated.
- Also, a Campaign Stats link has been added to all player pages that will load a page with some basic campaign stats. Right now it is exactly the same as what Bungie.net shows, but there may be more later on. The link is right after Daily Grenade Usage.

- I fixed one of those quirky bugs that's been around for a while related to the recent games lists and guests.
- On another note, Bungie's weekly update announces that Cold Storage will be available for free beginning on July 7, Bungie Day, on Xbox Live Marketplace. That's good news.
- Added a link to H3Artificer, a site dedicated to forging, specifically Switches.
- I probably get an email each week from someone asking about campaign stats. HaloCharts has excluded those stats up to this point, but based on the poll that's currently running, it might get added. If I add campaign stats they will be on a sub-report of some kind probably just to keep them out of the way of the multiplayer stats. Please vote and let me know your opinion!

- Since there are nearly 1000 salutes in the system, I went ahead and put up a Salutes Leaderboard.
- Somebody sent me a bug about how the Awards page was showing too many people for the EXP and HCS awards. That has been fixed. I'm sorry, but I forgot who sent it to me, but thanks for letting me know if you're out there!
- Added a link to Hawty McBloggy
- I set it up so that Supporters with High Skill 50 in more than 3 playlists now have awards all the way up to 7x. Before it stopped at 3x. An example of this is Webby111 who has a 50 in 6 playlists.

- There's a pretty cool new chart available on all player pages called Daily Grenade Usage. Its the first of a series of charts like this that will show specific weapons and their usage over time in relation to other weapons of a similar nature. Take a look and let me know what you think.
- HaloCharts just became friends with The Running Riot
- There is a new Place Breakdown chart for Supporters. Its a breakdown of the total for each place that a player has placed in games. Make sense?
- I went ahead and added another chart for Supporters called Score Breakdown that is very similar to the Place Breakdown chart. It shows the Slayer game type scores and how many times the player has scored that specific score.

- I think I finally fixed the logout problem on the site. Only time will tell though.
- Fixed a bug when calculating a player's playing streak in days
- Added a little chat with Firestream link on the Contact page. If you need me and I'm online, feel free to chat.
- Fixed a bug in the way overall kills and deaths per game was calculated.

| June 28, 2008 - I'm back! | I had to go out of town for a few days so my responses to emails has been much slower than normal. Also there haven't been any site updates, but I'll be back to work on the site now. If you never heard back from me on your questions, you might want to contact me again for a quicker response.

Suggested Completed: 431
Players with Suggested Completed: 187
Players with Goals: 847
So far so good!

- If you boost and your EXP Effectiveness gets really really high, expect your HCS and HaloCharts rank to drop quite a bit. Sorry, but boosters are taking over the leaderboards. I don't care if you do it some, but its getting out of hand when players get into the 135% and up range.
- I took the EXP Effectiveness Leaderboard down. It was full of player that abused the double EXP weekends and social boosting. Its really hard now to tell who has was the highest percent of their games now.
- I finally finished the much demanded Awards page. Its a page that details out all of the possible Halocharts awards and how many players have each. I think this will finally ease all of the players out there that have emailed me to ask about the awards.

- Getting ready to roll out the goals system. I think it will be complete in the next day or two. You can view a players goals by clicking Player Goals on their player page if they have any setup. I also fixed a few bugs related to the system thanks to some posts and feedback I've gotten. Here is an example on my page.
Players that complete the suggested goals will get a HaloCharts award on their player page. Here's the breakdown:
- 1 complete -> Bronze
- 2 complete -> Silver
- 3 complete -> Gold
- 4 complete -> Gold Star
- Added a link to Halo 3 Montage
- Fixed the player comparison generator to not highlight the winner if all of the players have 0 for a specific stat.
- Fixed the Photo Gallery to be PicLens enabled.
- Added a complete News Archive
- Added a Shoutbox Archive, complete with stats
